After reading and annotating the letter from Birmingham Jail by Dr. King, write about and discuss these things: What is the tone of the piece? What is the central message Dr. King is trying to get accross? Of your list of vocabulary words, which one stands out the most to you and why? How does this piece connect to Bud, Not Buddy?

Dear Mr. Hammonds,
The tone of the piece to me is sadness because Dr. King is in jail, and he sees the bad side of people.
The central message of Dr. King is that all people are created equal no matter what color, race, religion, or sex.
The one vocabulary word that stands out for me is paradoxical because I’m on the edge of knowing, but not knowing what this word means. So, paradoxical means a statement, proposition, or situation that seems to be absurd or contradictory, but in fact is or may be true.
This letter connects to “Bud, Not Buddy” because both are facing challenges. Dr. King is in jail for striking and Bud is being chased by the law because he is a run away also both face prejudices, and their common race.
Dear Mr.Hammonds,
In my opinion the tone of this story really shows you the sad part of “the good old days”.
It really shows you the contreversy between all the people and it shows you what happened to people back than. I think that all people should be treated equally like the way some of the people are now.
I also agree with the points that Dr.King throws out int o the passage like when he says”Your daughter asks you to go to a amusement park and then she breaks down in tears when she finds out its whites only.
Sincerely , Reilly
I think the tone is sad, and yet, I also think it is impatient. The king is tired of waiting for exceptance from other white people. I also think the cenral message is everyone is treated equal, and its not fair that people judge and be mean to blacks. The vocabulary word that sticks out the most to me is paradoxical. Not only does the word it self catch your eye because of its interesting spelling, the meaning fits perfectly in the piece because it describes how people though african american’s were. This piece connects to Bud, Not Buddy because they both are black, so people already judge them there, and the article states hardships, just like Bud faces hardships. They both also seek something they don’t have and strive to get it. Bud, his fater. And King his exceptence. Rielly, why does the point about the girl and the park stick out to you? What would you do if it was you?
I think the tone for the letter from Birmingham Jail is sad and it shows a lot of his opinion. The central message is that everybody should have equal rights and everybody should be treated fairly. Immorality is one of the vocabulary words that I did not know. It really stood out to me in that paragraph. It means, not in conformity with accepted principals of right or wrong behavior. When I read the definition I soon understood what it meant inside the passage. For the conection part I agree with Johnathon because they both really were really facing difficult challanges. Just like Johnathon said, King was on strike and Bud was running from the law.
I think the tone of this piece is sadness. I belives that Dr. King is trying to say that segregation is an unjust law that was forced upon African Americans and that it should end now.the vocabulary word that stands out most to me is harried. This means to harass, annoy, or prove nuisance as if by repeated attacks. This word stands out to me because each and every African American was attacked by the government and unfair laws. This piece connects to Bud Not Buddy because they both go through hard times but they overcome and solve their problems.
Dear Mr. Hammonds,
I agree with Jonathan, the tone is sad and hopeless.
I think the central message is that people are people and they should all be treated equally. A vocab word that stands out is distinctive. I thought i knew what it was but wasnt sure.
Melissa, just like you and everyone else, i think the tone is sad. I agree with you that both in Bud Not Buddy and the King both overcome problems and become happy. But, what if it was the other way around? What if white people were slaves and disrespected like Blacks? How would you feel?
in my opinion this story shows alot of emotion and stick it to the man attitude. And it is horrible that people would arrest other people for somthing as stupid as having a parade arond a city just to show that you are proud to be an american even if you are black and that your rights are to be respected just as any other american white or black and that you are to be respected. because every body white or black should be respect because we are all american and God created us all equal. And it makes me mad that people used to and still make comments and and are still racist to american blacks and they are our equals and deserve repect instead of having theyr respect. And back then the blacks would have theyr respect, dignity and civil rights desecrated and destoyed so that we whites can make our own laws and control over the colerd people of america. The simple fact is that all people were cereated equaly by God and every peson desreves and should get respect from every one not just theyr own race but they dont always get respect the respect they deserve and it makes me mad that this stuff still is our socioty and that even after Martin Luther King Jr. died and did all that he could to get the things that his race deserved that he did fail in some way and succeded in others.
“i have a dream” is martin luthern king jr.’s famous speach, but not ever one quit knows what he ment. martin is one of the few black men who stud up against segeration.the next part of the “i have a dream” speach is “that black and whites will be treated equally”.so the tone of the letter that he wote while in jail, (which was for standing up against segeration) was how poorly black people were treated just because of their color.
the mesage is the same. it is about how poorly black people were treated.jr king is trying to get people to under stand how unfair black people are treated.he was doing the right thing because black people were treated unfair. bud not buddy does not have much segeration and the letter was all about segeration. that is the letters from birmingham jail.
i think the tone is sadness. i think the central message that dr.king is trying to get across is that our world needs to stop segregating and start becoming a nation of fairness to all people. just because a person is a different color or a different race or a different anything doesn’t mean we should segregate them and make them feel unwelcome. every single person was made differently. so we should not pick a certain race to pick on and torture.i can not find any vocabulary words in the letter. this letter relates to bud not buddy because bud was segregated in the book and in dr.kings life.
